A few weeks back, while picking up a novelty URL for my gf, I picked up the URL “timege.ist“
That’s a name that has been floating around in my head. It’s not perfect, it doesn’t roll off the tongue, it’s a lil too self referential. But it’s been there. As possibly the name for this like weird mess of stuff I’m doing with photography. A reference to the concept of the “zeitgeist”. I’m playing with outdated camera technology to create something uniquely modern. I’m translating from the analogue to the digital world and back.
Also, using the phrase “the time ghost” anytime I mean zeitgeist is very funny.
Also also, TimeGeist shortens to TG. Transgender.
I think I’m done with the self-referential bit for now.
Anyways. Earlier today I finally started making the site. I had spun up a VM with WordPress a bit ago, and I just spent all day fiddling with themes making (a very incomplete) site for TimeGeist Imaging Systems. A photo lab, print shop, and a respooler. It almost looks real, in the “my neice set this website up for my lil business” kind of way.
I wrote a lot more about what making this site meant to me on that site. You can read that post here.
I’m not abandoning this site. I am still gonna write about my various hobby exploits here. I have a few writeups already started, including a larger exploration into my dev process. But that site exists now, as a sort of digital home for that category of project.
It feels nice to fuck around with design for a bit. And to try and solidify this nebulous series of projects into something concrete enough to make an website about.
